This book was a nonstop thrill ride from start to finish, and I can't stop thinking about it!

If you like books about assassins with immersive world building that unfolds around you as you read, with epic fight scenes, terrifying goddesses of death, a funny main character, and so many plot twists, make this your next fantasy read.

Eveen is an undead assassin with no memories of her life before, contracted to serve her goddess of death for eternity. Until one day, she's hired to kill someone who she can't kill.

Forced to go on the run and search for answers, while fighting off other assassins, this book is action packed and filled with mystery and intrigue.

Thank you to NetGalley and Tor/Forge for an advanced reader copy of The Dead Cat Tail Assassins.

Eveen the Eviscerator is a skilled guild assassin and also she's dead. Or is it undead? Either way she's definitely not a zombie or a ghoul and she can't remember any of her past before she signed a contract with the Matron of Assassins. Eveen's latest contract falls on the Festival of the Clockwork King and thrusts her into a memory, her first memory, and sends her on a wild night of investigation and survival.

The Dead Cat Tail Assassins proves that a rich and engaging fantasy world, with a full pantheon, and political system can be built in 200 pages. Clark's worldbuilding was so seamless and compelling with a humorous undertone to the narrative. Eveen was a fantastic character with depth, edge and wit. I adored her and being there as she investigated her past and took us through her city.

Hands down an amazing standalone short fantasy. I will venture to say that if you like the tone and pacing of Gideon the Ninth you will enjoy this book.

“Wi a Aeril. Wi word a law. An di law a fi wi power. Buh wi run tings, tings nuh run wi!”

Although this book ends with a satisfying conclusion, my biggest qualm is that it could’ve been longer. If we cannot have a longer book then we should at least get more stories in this universe because this book is something serious. Clark never disappoints. I fell in love with his work because of Ring Shout. That novella got me out of a pretty bad reading slump. His storytelling is immaculate and it is so full of life. We have so much worldbuilding and character work clocking in at 224 pages! This is a testament to his skills as a writer and it further, in my mind, cements him as one of the best fantasy writers that we currently have.

This book manages to be funny, charming but also equal parts dark with all the action that you could possibly want.

I honestly couldn’t pull myself away. I devoured this book. I could honestly read endless stories that take place in this world.

What a treat. I cannot wait for everyone to read this and I’m so grateful to Tor for letting me have access to an advanced readers copy!
