The version of Fa mu lan contained is original and wonderful. After that, the book slows down, though. It was honestly painfully slow and took perseverance to get through. I loved the sharing of unique family experiences; they were personable and heartfelt.

The book mixes supernatural elements and real events. It’s like a memoir written with poetry. There were some parts where when I read it like it was unconventional poetry, I could focus on the emotions feel like I understood a little better.
