An incredible book. I looked forward to reading this every opportunity I had. The Queen’s Gambit presents itself so simply but it’s so rich. While the excitement of chess is fun to read about (and made me want to play), the underlying notes of struggling with and overcoming trauma make for such an interesting story.

Taking away a quarter star for an unnecessarily SA scene.

Amazing, I couldn't stop listening. I never thought a book about chess could get you hooked on a book so much.

This historical fiction book offered a unique view into the world of competitive chess from the perspective of an awkward, self-determined girl who struggles with drug and alcohol abuse due to her troubled background. I love whenever an author can make a topic that I am personally not involved in interesting and vivid; the descriptions of each chess move and the overall games were fascinating. I also liked the perspective of a young girl, who was not easily accepted into the world of chess, and the tenacity she presented, despite her struggles within the orphanage and her mental health problems. Overall, this was a thoughtful and entertaining book that I quite enjoyed.

Beautifully written. As a lover of chess, the craftsmanship of this book is admirable.
