I really liked it. I’m not a fan of chess and have not played a game since childhood but I still enjoyed the book. Well written and flows well.
Reading a book adapted to tv after you've seen the adaptation is always a gamble--is it going to resemble the adaptation at all? Is it going to be more rewarding, or frustrating?
In comparing the two, colour me impressed as much by Scott Frank as I am with author Walter Tevis. Frank, who wrote and directed the miniseries, almost word for word carried the novel to the small screen. If anything, the series takes the skeleton of the book, and although it barely changes plot or dialogue, it strengths what is only implied or simply done economically in the novel; equally, it rewired some details in ways that conform better to the conventions for dramatic television as we have developed them over the last fifty years.
This is almost as strong as its adaptation, although it feels weird to say that, given that this is already incredibly strong as a piece of writing and the latter couldn't have been done without the former. Slightly disappointed that I didn't seem to get anything new out of this book, but does that just make the series a great adaptation? Who knows. Will likely pick up some more of this author's work soon.

It is very much a book about a young girl/woman written by a man. Why do children need to be sexualized, can this book not just be about a young chess prodigy in a world dominated by men? Disappointing.

Unlike Beth Harmon, I love endings. I thought this book was just fine for more than half of it, but then... the ending was masterful!!
Some characters I felt lacked a little bit of depth. Overall the writing is perfectly fine, every turn of the plot makes perfect sense and every character has its importance, it's almost impeccable without any extra flair... But the chess tournaments, those are next level good writing, it felt like reading about big fantasy battles with the world's fate at stake (especially in the finale).

براي اينكه دوسش دارم عميقا اين ملكه رو
فعلا چهارتا بهت ميدم:)

كه نيستي شهرت دخترتو ببيني
مثل سريال با پايان كتاب هم لبخند زدم و جدايي سخت بود.
يه سري چيزاي سريال حتي واسم قشنگتر بود
مثلا نگاه كردن بث به سقف:)
به سازنده هاي سريالشم افتخار ميكنم!كه انگار خود كتابو انداخته بودن جلو دوربين و اون ورق ميخورد قشنگ!
اينكه نويسندش مرده و نيست بث هارمنشو ببينه واقعا قلبمو ميشكنه:)
اقاي شايبل تو هم برام فراموش نشدني اي
كاش منم يه روز به اون زيرزمين ميومدم و باهات شطرنج بازي ميكردم
از طرف بث معذرت ميخوام كه بهت سر نزد:)

دلم ميخواست اينجا بيشتر به روابط و خود بث بپردازه و كمتر شطرنج باشه اما زياد اينطوري نبود
و اي بابا تاونزو اخرش تو سريال ديد و اينجا نبود:)
واقعا حس ميكنم شخصيت بث يه شخص واقعي بوده ازبس قابل لمسه
انتخاب بازيگرش واقعل تو سريال محشر بود:)

پيشنهاد خودم:
قبل ديدن سريال كتابو بخونيد بهتره چون مثل من اگه اول سريالو ديده باشيد ممكنه خيلي جاها خسته شيد
