The show, which I watched first, gave my imagination a wonderful template. Honestly it was about scene for scene.

I really enjoyed this book, having seen the TV adaptation a few times I thought I shoukd read it and was glad to. I felt that it was well written, not too sparse in its language but not overly laboured either.
The plot moves at a good pace, and seeing the main character grow is quite heartwarming. For me, it has a downside that is reminiscent of some of the Bond books; the games of chess are sometimes described in plodding detail that I found difficult to follow or visualise. But even with that drawback, I would still recommended this book.

3.5/5 ⭐️
I loved the book, it's a great story where Beth manages to outshine herself and I'm not talking only about chess. Yet, this is one of those rare times in which I prefer the book adaptation, because of the way the chess games were handled in the series. I only half know the basics of the game so, when the book said something about a move or anything else that had to do with the match she was playing, I was lost and the thread of the story went away because was trying to picture it. For someone who does know a bit more about the game, I doubt tha will have the same problem as me.
