Насправді не знаю, чи була б я зацікавлена книжулею, аби не подивилася б ще серіал до того. Бо він практично слово в слово й не гірший за роман, тож нічого нового я просто не знайшла.

Kind of a page turner. Not world shattering but definitely a good read. Also it reminded me a lot of chihayafuru (minus the love triangle) which is a very good thing

There’s a scene at the very beginning of this book that almost made me put it down. Very uncomfortable and I’m not sure what its purpose was considering it never gets brought up again. I am ultimately glad I continued because following Beth’s life after the orphanage was engrossing and made me wonder how this novel wasn’t turned into a TV show sooner. It’s been a while since I watched the show, but I feel like it really brought out the best parts of the book and discarded what needed to go.

It’s cool that understanding the intricacies of chess is not essential to enjoying Beth’s games.
