Very cute. The title a bit misleading in my mind because so much about identities and secrets but in the exploration of her sexuality and Catholicism in the mix interesting. Plus friendships good and bad.

Expressive art, underdeveloped and overwhelming story.
The first third of the book was painful to get through. The second third picked up. And the last third sped through everything.
It took me a month to finish this, and that included me pushing through the first hundred pages over three days, not reading it for a month and completing the rest of the book slowly over two hours.
There was just a lot going on in this story and it would’ve been much better if the story arc spanned volumes instead of just pages of one volume.
I did not enjoy the characters.

TW: trans phobia, homophobia, maybe more, but I forget
Going into this, I had high expectations. I was so excited to read this and see how it was. I thought it was going to be about two best friends who fell in love with each other, but boy was I wrong. This was not the best and not the worst graphic novel I have ever read. It was just a little bit above average, but I understood what Amanda was going through. It deals a lot with religion and the LGBT+ community, and are you accepted if you are LGBT+. I really understand that. Amanda was also dealing with this family secret that she found out, and how that changes things. I will say that I really loved the ending. I won't give any spoilers, but I thought that it wrapped up pretty nicely and made me feel so many emotions. The art was cute even if it was all in black and white. The cover, in my opinion, doesn't show what it was really about.
I will also say that even though Amanda had a crush on her best friend, her best friend was super bitchy and it didn't show a lot that she had a crush on her. All in all it was fine, though.

Thank you to Teens’ Top Ten Project for providing me with an advanced copy of Kiss Number 8!
I absolutely adored this story. The plot took so many twists and turns, and the ending completely shocked me! The LGBTQ+ themes were so powerful and motivating, and this is a book that I would recommend to everyone. The ending was very realistic and didn’t shy away from the difficult aspects of being an LGBTQ+ person in our society.

I wanted to like this book more than I actually did....
I have read over some other reviews of this book and I need to agree with them in that this wasn't a humorous book. It dealt with real sexuality, religious, and deeply root family issues.
The story follows a high schooler named Amanda trying to figure out her true self while trying to keep adhere to the catholic lifestyle that she is being brought up in. As you can imagine, it isn't the smoothest journey ever.
The problem that I had with this book, without giving to much away, is the reaction from mother towards the end. I don't see how realistic that dramatic change in her character is.

If the story clicks with you, you feel for the characters. The main character isnt perfect. She messes up a lot and you think "yikes". It's a tense situation. But as you watch over the main character you see how everyone grows and how everyone grows apart. It was a fun read. They characters felt human. Even if they kinda suck. Haha.
