This didn't go where I was expecting it to, and I'm glad.
Mads is a hot mess, but I found her to be an engaging hot mess. She is dealing with a lot, both at home and at school, and making all of the wrong decisions and jumping to the wrong conclusions but I was always rooting for her to figure this all out. I have to admit that I didn't realize it was set in 2004. There is a lot going on, but I thought the drama is probably realistic and the reality is that we don't usually have one issue at a time. And the more stuff you have going on, the less able you are to deal with one more thing.
I thought the artwork was good. I didn't have any trouble telling the characters apart, which has happened recently with a different graphic novel. I thought the expressions and other details in the drawings were wonderful and told the story.

The ending of this story was absolutely beautiful! I'm kind of sad it was only 3 pages...
Anyway, I greatly enjoyed this graphic novel. I found Cat extrememly frustratingbut was glad that that was the point of her character. I was nervous that she was going to end up with Mads . Venable tells a very realistic portrayal of friendships, first kisses, and a found family.
