The Black Dahlia

James Ellroy

3.58 AVERAGE

Warning: this book uses a lot of graphic language and descriptions of crime scenes.

This book was very well written and a great choice for crime enthusiasts. After having it on my bookshelf to-be-read list for a while, I finally picked it up. Author James Ellroy has taken the Black Dahlia murder, along with the personal unsolved murder of his mother and turned it into a crime-fiction novel that blew me away. The actual true details brought to the book, along with he story of fictional police detective Bucky Bleichert and his spiral into obsession were so well intertwined.

Very good, but very twisted read!

I liked this book for the most part it kept my attention. I however have not seen the movie and was told it wasnt that great?

Ellroy's tone is perfect, but this story had me a bit lost. It's plot speculated about such a brutal cold case that it feels a bit indifferent, even disrespectful. I think it's a miss fire by a talented writer, where his miss direction feels like drifting.

Goes so far into the depths of human depravity, with very little to lighten it. Just not for me.
