4 Stars!

I have been meaning to get around to this one FOREVER. Having just finished off Chris Ryan’s Agent 21 series, I thought that this would be the perfect place to go next. I have of course seen the film (I know not to judge the book by its film, but then again, Stormbreaker was always a guilty pleasure film for me), but wanted to get around to the book eventually.

I’m really glad that I did - it was really interesting to see where the two diverged, which, to be fair, wasn’t too much. I feel like if I’d read the book first, then the film might’ve felt a little bit lacking, but this way around, I can sort of think of them as separate entities.

So, as for the actual book itself - I thought that it was a great little short read, though I’m aware that the books get longer as the series progresses. I thought that Alex was a really interesting character and did the best that he could given his time and resources.

To be honest, I would have liked to have seen a bit more of Sayle during the book, but what we did see of him was tense. I’m also incredibly interested in Gregorivitch as a character, and hope that he pops up later in the series. Another thing that I feel could be interesting in the next few books is the actual role that MI6 will play in Alex’s life and how it will develop over time.

Overall: A fun and action-packed spy story with plenty of intrigue.

BookTube-A-Thon 2017 Challenge #2: Read a hyped book.

Granted, this book was definitely hyped when I was in middle school but I just now decided to read it. I keep up with a lot of the current hyped books so I decided to jump into an oldie that's still very popular amongst children.

This book was alright. If I read it as a kid I probably would have been even less into it because spies just weren't my thing and they still really aren't. I definitely see the appeal though.

This was so fun! Preposterous scenario our Alex finds himself in, but if you determinedly suspend disbelief and read it bearing in mind its target audience, it is an exciting, fun spy adventure that had me smiling. I would have wanted there to be a bit more atmosphere and tension, perhaps, and to be inside Alex's skin a bit more closely somehow, but I really enjoyed how proactive and heroic Alex is - and I feel like his highly unrealistic skill set (I was cracking up when
Spoilerhe jumps out of the plane and manages to crash through the very roof of the room he was making for! :D
) is offset by the stupid mistakes he made along the way!

I enjoyed this definitely but at the end of the day, it is for 12 year old boys…will be picking up the next one momentarily

This is the first book I have read by this author, and it is quite good. It is well targeted to the intended age range, and seems like it would appeal to tweens & early teens. I will not likely read any more in this series as I am not the target audience for it.
