Non-stop action with a large dose of incredulity on the side. A fourteen-year old spy with skills, what’s not to hope for?

I see why this series was so hot back twenty years ago when I began working as a school librarian. I had to keep on my toes to make sure I had each new episode on the shelf as soon as possible. Some of the technology is dated, but I think I may still get a few readers for it.

I'm obviously not the target demographic but I love reading, James Bond and spy fiction and I've started to appreciate Horowitz as a writer. I can see the appeal and popularity based on this first book. Alex himself is a little vanilla but the situation and set pieces play with 70s era Bond tropes and it all makes for a lot of fun. It could perhaps take itself less seriously but hey, small complaint. I'll happily while away more hours listening to these and see how far they take me.

Bond is very often mentioned, and it does feel like a child trying to be Bond. And considering how much Bond bumbles his way through, not bad Alex.

This is a great spy novel for tweens and very young adults or readers that need a stepping stone to develop their reading skills. Very fun young James Bond-style story line.
