I remember reading this in high school, and it obviously impressed me enough that I kept it on my list of "books I liked" and eventually got turned into a spreadsheet, that got turned into my Goodreads obsession! I figured it was finally time to read again and see if I still liked it.

Yup! This is classic spy action cleaned up for the middle-grade reader. I would watch a movie of this--it is a bit grittier than your disneyfied "spy-kids" fare, but still okay for kids. Exciting, but not unwholesome. It's FUN, and if every installment is as action-packed and unique as the first one I say this beats Hardy Boys all to heck. Thumbs up on the book! Lets see if the rest of the series passes muster.

Straightforward, James Bond like spy mystery totally acceptable for middle grade. I wouldn't give it to my 3rd grader yet, but 4th/5th would be a perfect level for this book. The story line is a "standard" spy mystery but read with young eyes would be fun, tension filled and engaging.

I became obsessed with the Alex Rider TV adaptation over the last few weeks and developed this unquenchable thirst to reread the series. I binged all 10 of the Alex Rider books in one summer when I was like 14 so I was really curious to see how they would hold up today as an adult. I listened to the audiobook, and the most tragic thing happened: I realized the show is so much better lmao. This book was still really fun and I can see why I loved them so much as a kid, but I think the show made some great changes that led Alex to be so much more likable and complex as a character.

I may or may not continue on with my reread, we shall see!
