Understood BBC Sherlock better because of the accurate references but what made it more fun for me was the language used because, wow, books from the 19th century are funny to read while in the 21st.

This was very fun. Read it in a weekend.
The length of each mystery was so perfect, honestly one of the most engaging books I've ever read. Maybe that's because I can't stay focused for very long so I need smaller chunks to digest? oh well...still fun. Pretty much just candy.
