This book definitely took me on a ride. Captivating and eerie imagery, well thought out and executed themes of grief. Time ceased being linear reading this and became fluid all things happening at once. Was it possession? A demon? Some sort of cosmic entity? Was it all just a metaphor? Maybe I’ll never know but I honestly don’t mind, the journey was enough.

Spectacularly creepy early on, but the more I read the less it impacted me. The ending was a bit of a let down.

Whenever I read a mystery thriller, I have a little voice in the back of my head telling me I'm going to hate or not feel anything. this was the latter. I'm not saying this book is bad, It just felt boring with a mc slowly going insane. The ending left me unsatisfied because I was just getting more confused by the second.

The first part of the book had the potential, maybe mid way through the book it started to fall off for me. I did ask for a book recommendation and I got this at the time I was feeling a mystery thriller.

Mystery Thrillers I've personally read have the mc/characters falling into a spiral of insanity/delusion or about a murder. I do wanna try to read more mystery thrillers before I have a permanent idea of it.

Positives:
- this book is soo depressing but in a compelling way. My take away is that
Thiago was an easy target for The Entity bc of his family/past and the way he has dealt with that in the future. He isolates himself from everyone other than Vera. She is Thiago's tether to the world so The Entity had to kill her if it wanted to fully break him. Thiago is trapped in his past and that's why when he attempts to change history and save Vera when he's in CO, he causes the accident to happen in the past.

- the writing is very visceral and some of the descriptions made me physically uncomfortable (complimentary)

- I liked the pacing and the ramping up to the supernatural/horror elements

- I thought the evolution of Thiago's relationship with Diana was interesting

Negatives
- I thought the beginning was a bit slow.

- The Itza stuff in the beginning was a bit silly bc why would you keep a device that is making random charges on your credit card. It took me out of the plot a bit.

- The Itza/tech plot kind of drops off in a way that is disappointing. I kept waiting for the items the Itza bought for them to come up again but it didn't

- I liked the ending overall but not totally in a way I can't quite put my finger on. One thing is that I wasn't sure if the Itza manual was supposed to be part of the book bc I read the book while listening to the audiobook and that part is not in the audiobook.

"When you died I mourned you, but also the version of myself I was with you."

Brilliant.

From the beginning to the end, I was absolutely captivated. A wonderful exploration into grief, with an ending I could not get enough of. I cannot wait for what else Moreno has to offer.
