Gus Moreno’s This Thing Between Us is a great portrait of a grieving man after his wife is taken from him. Spiraling, he isolates himself and becomes more and more consumed by grief. That’s all I want to give away as Moreno’s novel is a great page turner that I would recommend to anyone looking for an afternoon read. I personally enjoyed the portrait of grief, Thiago’s character and the speculation that occurs at the start of the book. It’s very pulp in the way your expectations are subverted time and time again with new details that warp your perception of the situation. That being said, I feel as though the latter half of the book suffers from a lack of satisfying answers, and the horror (personally) didn’t hit me very hard. Moreno’s language and prose is very beautiful however! And I found myself getting sucked into his world even if I didn’t totally enjoy the narrative. Do not let my negative jabs tear this book down, I still think it’s a great thriller novel and fans of the genre should read it! Gore warning though!
i'm confused. i liked reading it and i loved this depiction of grief and strangeness and feeling out of place but i can't see the whole picture and that's what confuses me
Reading this made me feel insane. I'm not sure if I loved the twists it took but it was shocking.

What I loved most about this book is that you get to put together the pieces of what is happening through Thiago’s experiences before and after his Wife, Vera’s, death.
I also love this conversational writing style that makes incredibly accurate and interesting observations on the human experience.
Here’s what I think the story is…
The demon hunting Thiago has been attached to this family for generations. We aren’t told why it’s suppressed but I believe it has been and moving into the apartment where the old woman Fidelia has done a ritual. That unleashes the demon into the apartment and sparks all of these events.
What I loved most about this book is that you get to put together the pieces of what is happening through Thiago’s experiences before and after his Wife, Vera’s, death.
