A classic. Can’t believe I haven’t read this before. Loved the prose, haunted house horror is probably my favorite sub genre. Shirley Jackson is probably the best to ever do it.

The book was very slow. I kept waiting for something spooky or scary to happen while they are in the house. This book was not scary at all.

The ending is very abrupt. I felt like the ending was very unclear and kind of confusing. I also don’t enjoy reading books where I have to look up the ending on Google for further explanation.

Just wasn’t for me. Based on the time period this book was written, I think I need to research it to understand the writing style and story more.
