I enjoyed the first book a lot more, but this is still gorgeous. This is full of no-win scenarios which make it a lot more grim. Neither Bea or Cad ever take enough time to think before acting which is really frustrating - maybe that's my age talking, but even at the beginning her grandfather gives her simple instructions to go on her quest and she completely ignores him to no end. The end is extremely predictable. B
ea is clearly trying to communicate with the bird, but instead of hearing him out and trying to understand, they fight and kill the literal light spirit. What'd they think was going to happen?
I don't think the other perspectives really added anything to this - just more distracting than anything.
