A Regency tale of Catherine, Lady Heyerwood, of her marriage and and widowhood, and trials to stay independent.

It was a decent Regency read, but not spectacular. Some of the dialogue was a little clunky and the story could have been more developed. I wasn't really sure what the endgame was. Catherine's journey into independence was interesting, particularly when she confronted her imperious father, but it was a little wanting when it veered into the romance arena. The two male love interests could have been more fully developed. I didn't find myself rooting for either one. The source of Michael's anger and control issues seemed a little too by the book and James' pursuit of Catherine, I didn't really buy it. I never felt Catherine had a connection with him. I really wanted Catherine to throw them both over and stay the independent lady she became over the course of the novel. Also, at least in my copy, there seemed to be some typesetting errors when it came to the punctuation. So that was kinda annoying.
