The intended audience for this book I would say is probably late middle school to early high school students. The world building in the world is interesting whilst being whimsical. The characters are also fun and easy to distinguish from one another. There is a strong emphasis on familial relationships and friendship over any kind of romance. I'm not sure if a romance develops later on in the trilogy, but for now it seems that the relationships are mostly platonic. There is an entire world left to explore in this world and a lot of politics at play that drive the plot forward. I appreciated the moments of adventure sprinkled in between moments of exposition. It helped keep the story interesting and we switched back and forth between characters which also helped with pacing. Overall, I think this book series is unique in terms of the world building and that the story is interesting enough to be worth a try. Again, it's very light hearted because it is intended for a younger audience, but I don't think that takes away from the fun of the story at all.
