One of the best books I have ever read

This was such an interesting premise! There are aspects of Babel reminiscent of the poppy war*, but for some reason I found this book a bit more heavy-handed in it's themes. (Maybe because we have all this in one both rather than spread across a series.) Not my favorite by this author, but undeniably a great book.

This was my first 5/5 and by God it is well deserved.

R.F Kuang’s Babel is a masterpiece. Its commentary on colonialism, capitalism, imperialism, racism, sexism, revolution, and class is incredible. The characters are written so incredibly well. Ramy, Victoire, Letty and Robin are characters you can’t help but feel a connection to in various ways. You have to read this book.

R.F Kuang is my favorite author of 2025.
