For a first volume of manga, it opens up a lot of questions but not much is answered.  There's quite a bit of intrigue going around and some of the world building is very interesting (especially the keys/dimensional travel situation) but I'm not particularly invested.

The characters seemed like pretty typical stereotypes, the story was a bit lacking, the setting was fine, the art style was cool, but also confusing.  This might be one where I try the anime to see how I feel about it.

This is actually a re-read for me. I started collecting the manga years ago, and watched the first season of the anime. This volume is a good 1-1 on the anime. I remember thinking how brutal the first episode of the anime was, and the first chapter of the manga is exactly that. What an opening !

I do find Rin to be a bit too much of the stereotypical angry protagonist. We've seen his personality before, and there are still protagonists in manga/anime today that follow the model Rin is based on. For example, Shinra from Fire Force. However, I do remember Rin getting better characterization in the anime, so I'm hoping the manga is the same there.

The art is quite good, but there are times where the characters look like frogs to me. I found that quite humorous, but I don't think that was the intention. I also found myself quite happy that I had watched the anime first for some scenes, because otherwise I wouldn't really be able to tell what was going on.
