This book was a whole lot of fun. I don’t read a lot of romantasy, and fae are not really my thing, But when I saw this book, and it seemed interesting I was like yeah lets do this. Boy, am I glad I did because this ended up being quite the treat. This book had me in its clutches from the start and that did not let up. In the beginning the pace was a little slower, but it makes sense because the author was starting to lay things out, but then after a little bit the pacing picked up and continued at a nice clip. I feel like as someone who struggles with world building, this book did a fantastic job and I did not get lost or confused at all. The romance in this book was a little mild, there is a lot of angst and I’m curious to see how this goes in the next book. I feel like despite being a romantasy this book was fairly light on the romance, or it felt like it was more an adventure book not necessarily a romance book, or is there a action book about romance? It just fell a little flat in this area for me but I did still really enjoy the book.
If you are looking for a romantasy that has delightful worldbuilding and a fast plot, then you should check this one out.
Thank you to @acebookspub and @netgalley for the e-arc, all thoughts are my own.

Vor better get his shit together in the next book!!
I love how the Trolde are depicted. It's a nice variation from the usual fae, etc for romantasy that I've seen. I liked how Faraine and Vor had a repertoire right from the start. I hated how Faraine's family forced her to betray Vor.
3.5⭐️- An enjoyable, dark Fantasy with a slow burn romance that will leave you wanting more.
I’ve read a couple of books by Sylvia Mercedes before which I enjoyed and this has been on my TBR since it came out so I was excited to read it. It was an easy and fairly quick read but it also had depth and multiple darker, more complex plot points and there was a good sense of characterisation for all the characters.
Our two narrators, Faraine and Vor were, let’s face it, the definition of Pining idiots in love and I was here for it!

I am obsessed with this book! It had everything I wanted, I can't wait to read the second book!
I just loved how the author did the worldbuilding for this book. It had a good pace, although the MC's don't end up togther until very late in the book, which is fine as it is part of a triology. It did good for the story though as everything was able to be explained along the way instead of it all being background information.
I like the progress between the two main characters and loved how they were both pining for each other without the other one knowing (as he was intended to marry her sister of course). I usually don't like trickery, but didnt mind it here as it made the path free the two MC's'.
I really recommend this book to anyone. It's one of my favorite reads in 2022 for sure!
