Wasn't aware it was a MxM story. Isn't my type of book.

No idea how long this had been languishing on my Kindle. Since I didn't remember getting it or anything about it, I was surprised by some things in the world of this novel.

I'm skeptical at how well a BDSM club frequented by members of the royal family could be hidden, but the BDSM activities described did seem realistic and responsible from what I know of the scene (which admittedly is limited)

What would happen if the British royal family owned a BDSM club? We start to find out in Elouise East's series debut, Rogue Royal...

See why I gave this book 5 Stars: http://www.mmromancereviewed.com/2021/09/rogue-royal-by-elouise-east.html

I received an ARC to facilitate my review

Will you allow me to catch you when you fall?”

After reading the character-intro in Royals First; I anticipated to dive right into this kinky family!

Things I enjoyed most:

There is multi-POV; there were POV chapters of all the (important) royals; while we follow mostly the MCs.
I love this added plot-dynamic!

The focus on one specific kink/bdsm practice and the range of it:
Douglas and Maverick come with a lot of (pain free) sensory and sensory deprivation play

I love to read kink variety, but sometimes things feel cut short, if there’s a mix of „too many“. So getting a story with „focus“ was super fun for me

Some Tags:
Experienced Dom / New Sub
Kink Exploration
Hierarchy-Gap (Prince & Assistant)
‚Playboy‘
Scandals
Social Media
Bribe
Secrets
Fraud
strong female side/support characters
(…)

Bonus: the story comes with a Family Tree and a short list of appearing Characters with their connections to each other (I skipped it, but know I might need it for future stories and to keep track 😅)

TW:
this story contains abuse of power in D/S relationships (not by MC!)
Homophobia (against MCs)

Note: I chose this series for the kink variety 🤭

Additional Note:
The story is placed in a modern day alternate universe mainly:
the british kingdom
I know nothing about the „real structurs“ so I just went with the Rules of the created AU and didn’t „auestion“ it.

I was so invested and thought of the whole concept as interesting; I already purchased the whole Series
☺️😌

This book is not really a standalone. But it is the first book in the series and centers on Douglas and Maverick. These two are both so likable it’s hard to see how Douglas is falsely identified as a habitually, in trouble playboy. Maverick’s job is to try and keep Douglas on track and to clean up his missteps. In reality Douglas is so responsible and warmhearted. Douglas is the spare and his brother Freddie goes out of his way to stand up and cover for Douglas because he know what Douglas is up to. When Douglas and Mav start to admit there is this attraction between them, Douglas’s father, warns him that Mav is not to be a serious involvement. Who can decide what the heart wants and that is the magic that pulls them together. Douglas is into the club and the BDSM lifestyle. Mav is a total non pain person. He knows of the club but has a mistaken opinion of what goes on there. Douglas starts by introducing Mav to sensory play. This works out well for both of them. I appreciated how the author handled the fact that there are not really hard and fast rules and pain and torture are not necessarily a part of this lifestyle. Throughout the story there are a number of other issues that keep the characters on their toes. The flow of the story is constant. The author gave a a good feel for who the characters are. The secondary characters are interesting. I am anxious to read the rest of the story.
