This was a great nonfiction read. Well written, well thought out, and you can tell a lot of research went into it. Petersen did a great job depicting issues women have when dealing with their image and how they are seen, and then finding women in current history/pop culture to use as examples.

By introducing a woman in each Too category the author makes a jumping off place to discuss issues facing women today.

I didn’t know what this book was about when I purchased and I probably wouldn’t have read it if I knew it was just about celebrities. It was okay and the author was sure to point out nuance and provide a full picture for a few things. The book mostly just shows how many double standards we have and how impossible it is to be a woman in this world.

I enjoyed most of this book. There were a few chapters that I did not enjoy. Simply because I would not have chosen those women to represent the chapter title.

I’m between a 3 and 4 here! This was very thought provoking, but felt dated, I had to keep reminding myself that this was written in 2017.
So much has happened and changed in our world in just 7 years, and I would be interested to see this book through the lense of today’s unruly women!

This book is actually written a lot more academically than I was expecting. Anne Helen Petersen seems to manage to blend a personalised style of writing with an academic one, which pleasantly surprised me. However, one element of academic writing I wish hadn't featured as much is the tendancy to be repetitive in explanations of ideas.

Otherwise, this book opened my eyes to the treatment of women in society and especially in the media in ways I hadn't previously understood in detail. Therefore I would recommend this book to anyone wanting to understand the sexism of the media in more detail, and in some cases the racism and transphobia of the media as well.
