4.5 rounded up. As someone who is going into somewhat the mental health field, this was such an impactful read. I enjoyed most of his takes on mental health in which I agreed for the most part. His way of interacting with and interpreting depression and anxiety will help cope with it. It was a pretty long book in which he could have shorten or combined a lot of the chapters. He did give tons of stories and experiences which people while he was researching for this book. Those were very impactful as they were first account experiences in which helped explained some of the concepts he was talking about. Some of them, he could have gotten to the point faster, but I loved how he presented his research in such a qualitative way. If you are going into the mental health field, I suggest reading this just to get a holistic perspective!

Very confronting read, loved all the research and his style of writing. Very engaging read that gets you thinking.

Brilliant and compassionate

I picked this up because I liked Stolen Focus (which maybe I should revisit now I’m more familiar with the author’s schtick),but I kinda hated this in both style and substance.

Whilst the conversation around a lot of the points on 'reconnection' in this book has progressed since it was published, I found it to be a really well rounded look at how we might seek out happier and more connected ways of living. I did find there to be some fatphobic undertones running through the book, which disappointingly seems to be a common trend in self help/psychology/personal development texts
