My only quarrel with this book is that I read it before the release of the second one.

Look, it's good. Some may even say it's really good, and they wouldn't be wrong. But holy hell where was the editing team for this novel? It was 200 pages too long. The pacing is so slow.
Vis is a veritable "Gary Stu" and at no time did I worry he would never achieve his goals.
The hero's journey IS pretty amazing though. I love the concept of using modern politics in a fantasy/sci Fi pre Roman empire setting. I love the Hierarchical structure, the pyramids, and the Will system.
The politics, is also interesting and how the three pyramids interact with one another.
Love the mystery of the labyrinth and Caeror!
There are a Myriad of characters in this novel (60- from the glossary in the back).
I'm invested enough to see what happens in Book Two, but if it's any longer then the first book - I'm out.
I hope the pacing increases and it gets a more ruthless editor.
All in all worth the read!
