Wow. I don’t even know where to start with this book. Everything about it was just so perfect in a way I have scarcely seen in books before.

I first read Cynthia’s work in the “proud” anthology, and so was extremely excited when I saw this in Waterstones the other day.

From the get go, images were painted so beautifully, and So just captured so extremely well how hard it can be as a queer person, even having crushes on other queer friends. And then the heartbreak that ensues when they don’t feel the same back to you.

It was also extremely refreshing to see that Elsie’s crush at the beginning was not in-fact who she ended up with. Queer (particularly sapphic) books seem to follow a pretty standard form, and I can’t think of any that have love triangles.

I could say so much more about this beautiful work of art, but it’s genuinely so hard to put into words how amazing this book was. To anyone contemplating buying and reading this book, do it. It was absolutely fantastic and left me dabbing my eyes with a tissue.

love me a little queer YA novel with a protagonist who is learning to fully embrace themselves 🏳️‍🌈

this book has complex friendships, challenging family dynamics, and a whole lot of love. i think a lot of us can find ourselves in the characters here
