I adore this book about the comings and goings of things in our lives, in the form of hellos and goodbyes! This was a tad lengthy for Baby Lapsit but would be perfect for story time!

Wow! What a great lesson within the pages of this book! As kids grow up, one of the hardest things is the saying goodbye to things as they outgrow or as the world changes. For example, Trent just finished preschool and is now in a jump start to pre-K program, so he is switching teachers. What a hard transition! We’ve also had a lot of change at my school that I teach at, and I have had to talk to my middle schoolers about change. It is hard for them, too! And the book doesn’t only deal with big changes, it also shows that seasons change, clothes change, haircuts change… Life is about changes, and we have to learn how to work through them to live our happiest life. Because of the way the book is written, a lot of discussion can happen inferring from the writing and the illustrations to help determine what change is happening to the kid in the illustration.

Such a sweet book helping readers feel comfort about making transitions and starting new things. The illustrations are adorable and add a cheerful feel. Would make a great book for kids starting their first day of school, or anyone going through changes.

Thanks to Blue Slip Media and the publisher for the review copy. All opinions are my own.
GOODBYE BRINGS HELLO is a new picture book that’s perfect for encouraging little ones to try new things. It celebrates the big milestones in children’s lives, while encouraging them to look forward to what’s to come.
Remember those moments in childhood? Those moments when you had to give up your favorite blanket because big kids don’t need blankies? Or you outgrew your most comfortable nightgown, the one with the frayed lace and the ripped hem? Maybe the time when you still wanted to play with dolls, but your friend was ready to move on to “teenager stuff.” (<–Can you tell all of this happened to me?)
Kids are often tempted to hold on to childhood favorites because they can’t see the exciting new things on the horizon. In GOODBYE BRINGS HELLO, author Dianne White gently suggests that while it’s hard to set aside what we’re used to, it will be worth it. You never know what adventures will be waiting for you.
The vibrant illustrations by Daniel Wiseman depict diverse kids bravely trying new things.
GOODBYE BRINGS HELLO would serve well as an encouragement to a nervous child who is nearing a new stage. It would also be a wonderful gift book for a child facing any life change–new sibling, new school, new house or whatever you can dream of.

Effectively models coping with separation anxiety through diverse characters and scenarios. Pleasantly brief.
