I feel almost sorry to rate this only 2* as Van Winkle is clearly a very accomplished poet, and as I have read one too many "inspirational quotes masquerading as poetry" poets in recent years it seems wrong go rate someone who is writing poetry that I can recognise as taking a lot of work so low. Unfortunately although this collection is competent, it didn't resonate with me at all, I felt no emotional connection and no lines stood out as beautifully written or poignant. I even found myself bored by the last, long, poem. So 2* it is.
