This book is very different at least to me due to the way it is written. The prose is absolutely stunning and it kept me going all the way through. Unfortunately everything else fell flat for me. I wasn't into the main character much and the plot kept me intrigued very little. I do recommend it nonetheless since it is a good book just not really my taste.
The only reason I didn't DNF this was because I was driving in the middle of a hurricane and didn't want to take my eyes off the road for a sec in order to shut this audible off.
I would have been HELLA PISSED had I died or suffered major injuries because of this book.
The main protagonist is a whiny, unethical 33-year-old woman who was partly responsible for the death of her best friend during adolescent years and statutory raped her 17-year-old student.
She's garbage from the get.

I don't even really care that she's trying to atone for her sins later on in this book. I just... really didn't care about her or any other character tbh.

In terms of writing and progression of the narrative, I personally felt like every time there was a redeeming moment for Melody it would automatically be followed by negative background experience and faulted character traits. At one point I literally thought to myself, does this author want me to be displeased with her? Because, like, mission accomplished, my dude.
In regard to comments stating this book is poetic, my response is:

This book read more along the lines of:

Anyways, it isn't horrendous writing nor a horrendous plot. Just mediocre across all realms and kinda dull tbh. Turned off for more of this author's work.
Sole highlight - this book is extremely short. Had it been any longer I def would have DNF'ed. Hurricane be damned.
