I didn't like this quite as much as Soulless (which I absolutely ADORED), but it was still tons of fun. Even though the ending made me unreasonably angry
SpoilerConall, you are an IDIOT
. But the writing is as sharp and funny as ever, and I love the banter between Alexia and Conall. I can't wait to see what happens next.

This series is good comfort reading in these challenging times. I love all the kick-ass ladies.

This was the second installment of the Parasol Protectorate series. I really enjoyed this installment over the first installment. It was quite witty and entertaining. I also enjoyed the expanding story line and how Ms. Carriger is providing more insight into her world. Her characters had more depth than in Soulless and I enjoyed the dialog between them more so. I also enjoyed the incorporation of a little Egyptian mythology. Looking forward to Blameless and the final two installments in the near future!

Original review on Julalicious Book Paradise

I will admit that the first book of this series wasn't one of my favourite reads, but I had already bought the books to the whole series, so I decided that one day I would have to continue them and that day has come and...

I'm really happy that I continued because I really liked the second book of that series. Alexia is a character quite peculiar and maybe it is because she has no soul, but I feel like even with a soul, she wouldn't be that much different. She is strong-minded and she doesn't let anyone forget, especially not her husband who seems to adore and hate that about his wife.

Her relationship with Lord Maccon is quite possible the most entertaining. While he can't seem to keep his hands off her, I believe he enjoys arguing with her. I feel that their arguments sparks their love life more than anything else. I truly believe that she loves him even without a soul, but she isn't made to react like any lady in love.

But that's why we enjoy reading about her. She has a way to think through things that most people would probably ignore due to emotions getting in-between us and our rational thoughts. I believe that's why she also finds herself in the most dangerous situations.

In this book, we meet new characters like Madame Lefoux who is really intriguing. I'm not sure whether we ought to fear her or love her hahaha She has secrets that we discover throughout the book, but I feel there's a lot more to be learned if we see her in the next books of the series which I don't doubt we will. I believe her friendship with Alexia will provide some unique situations.

We see old characters in this that I will admit that I had mostly forgotten like Alexia's oldest friend Ivy. She seems to be the typical lady who seems to be outraged by everything not conventional, but I really like her. She adds something to the story and I feel like Alexia, even if she might not be aware of this, is really fond of her and enjoys her company even if her tastes in hats is quite horrible.

So something is affecting the supernatural beings in London and no one knows what is going on so Alexia is investigating. Through it, she learns about ancient stories about something or someone who is more dangerous to supernatural than her, but whether it's true or simply a tale, she doesn't know.

WARNING that this could be a spoiler (or not, I never know with some people), but this book does end with some sort of cliffhanger and you just want to read the next book because you want to know how it will end.

I've started the third book and I'm hooked. So much is happening and I believe that if you have started the first book and didn't enjoy that much, give a chance to the second and see whether or not you will change your mind like I did.

4.5 Stars

Very nearly immediately after I finished Soulless I downloaded Changeless because let’s be honest, I was swept off my feet by this Victorian/Steampunk/Paranormal/Romance. This book was just as engaging as the first and left me amused and perhaps slightly enraged at the end. Those of you who have already read this will know precisely what I mean! The outrage I felt on behalf of poor Alexia!

Anyways, Changeless introduces a veritable host of new characters which I think has worked out very well for this series. New characters aren’t always an improvement in a book, but in this case I liked it and the new additions helped to expand the world a little. Madame le Fou was a fun addition – she’s very mysterious, clever, and totally embraced pants before the rest of society. She’s also a talented inventor, who I’m pretty sure showed up in Carriger’s Finishing School series as a child (can anyone confirm?). The arrival of the previously abroad Woolsey pack and the subsequent problems is where our true adventure lies, as their arrival heralds a strange wave of… normal. Vampires and Werewolves become mortal and all ghosts in the area of effect are exorcised, alarming the entire population of London, immortal or otherwise.

So far, I’ve found all of Gail Carriger’s writing to be fantastic and quite funny. Her books have been a breath of fresh air during those times when every fantasy book feels much the same – unwaveringly serious plots, saving the world, etc. The change of scenery in Changeless was welcome – from dirigible delights to the rough Scottish Highlands, there was certainly enough travel in this one! I’ll be continuing with The Parasol Protectorate series as soon as time allows! If you’re interested, I would highly recommend the audio version of this series. The narration is excellent!

In the second installment of The Parasol Protectorate series, Lady Maccon (formerly Alexia Tarabotti) follows her husband to Scotland, who is investigating why supernaturals are suddenly becoming human. Ivy the flighty best friend and Felicity the annoying younger sister tag along with Lady Maccon, which makes the trip even more eventful. Ivy has to be one of the best characters in this series. She always gets the best lines, I don't know where Gail Carriger comes up with half of it.
While looking for the solution to the supernatural problem the ladies meet Lord Maccon's old pack and also discover a traitor among them.
The book ends with an amazing cliff hanger that made me wish I had taken out book #3 from the library, because I'm dying to know what happens next.
I also hope Lord Maccon redeems himself in this next book, because I was not impressed by him in the last few pages.
Overall the book did seem a little slower then the first one but it was still enjoyable.

Wonderful mystery adventure that kept me on my toes and turning the pages for the entire novel. I was devastated by the cliffhanger... as it only increased my distress of not having the next novel on hand; I will be first in line when it is released. I am excited for the next Alexia adventure.

This is still a highly entertaining series. I did find myself getting a little annoyed at some of the overly mannered writing - it was just a little too too. But a fun read.

When I read the first one of these, I wasn't quite sure if I liked it or not. I decided to try another one. I'm glad I did. This one was extremely enjoyable, though the ending pissed me off to no end. That's all I say about the end so I don't spoil you. :) I'm looking forward to reading the rest of the series!
