The second book in this series was much more to my liking than the first one. The romance was toned down and the supernatural turned all the way up!
We get intrigue, murder attempts, scheming, gadgets and lots of supernatural worldbuilding.
I particularly enjoyed how ghosts function in this world.
And while the ending wasn't very surprising, it's consequences were! I did not expect the heroine to be affected this way. I am very intrigued as to how this will progress.

Again, LOVE this series. The adventures are interesting and fun, the characters are charming or endearing and the tale is spun brilliantly. :)

ok so taking this one in it’s context is key—did take off a star bc i didn’t quite connect w it as much as i wanted to—but honestly this is like. pure fluff entertainment. also love a slow bi reveal!! that ending tho?? gonna have to pick up the next real soon

*Almost* as delicious as the first book in this Victorian-vampire-steampunk series, but the ending felt rushed and ultimately led to a cliffhanger. Still, what fun!

SHE TURNS YOU MORTAL WHEN YOU TICUH YOUR FUCKING SHITBISCUIT. I understand you have 200+ years of not getting anyone pregnant but stop and think for 5 seconds about what you're wife is. Absolute Buffon

This book for some reason is far more engaging than the first in the series. I blame Madame LeFoux - she's utterly fascinating. And Alexia seems to develop a deeper personality (like she's becoming more herself as the series goes on, if that makes sense). I adore Carriger's writing style already (historical fiction mixed with a touch of sci-fi/fantasy), so that was a given. But the story in this one is also more engaging. Perhaps because it's that I couldn't really relate to falling in love with Lord Maccon; as a lesbian the whole "his quivering member" love story aspect was a snorefest. But this book is far more about Alexia than about romance, which I love.

And the ending OOOMMMMGGGGG! Cliffhanger extraordinaire (which of course only made me pick up the next book extremely quickly). Love it.
