Having read the full series and gone back for rereads, it's interesting to see where certain plot threads first caught my attention. There's a thread of dread about certain developments even though there's the anticipation of the fun characters to come. Anyway, I still think the first is my favorite even after all this time, but I do like the shenanigans in this one.
Maybe a bit too sarcastic for me, but still a good book nonetheless.

Gail Carriger's series starring Alexia Tarabotti is slowly, but surely winning me over to steampunk. Changeless, the second in the series, is an absolute mad-dash, romping adventure that takes our heroine by dirigible to the wilds of the Scottish Highlands.
Something is happening in the ranks of the supernatural. Vampires are losing their ghastly pallor and their fangs. Werewolves can no longer take on their hairy, four-legged shape. One would think that Alexia, a preternatural (born with no soul) were holding everybody's hand. Have scientists harnessed the power of the preternaturals to make supernaturals mortal...and has this power been turned into a weapon? Or have returning regiments of soldiers brought back some disease that affects only the supernaturals? And what does all this have to do with Lord Maccon's (Alexia's husbands) former pack in Scotland? In addition to all this, someone does not want Alexia to make it Scotland...and does not want her finding any answers. Will she survive the poison in her dinner? Or the attempt to throw her off the dirigible?
Carriger kept me on the edge of my seat as I kept reading to discover the answers to these and other questions. Alexia is a marvelous main character--headstrong, smart, witty, fearless and able to wield a parasol in battle like nobody's business. Watching her face down everyone from an offended army major to the Beta werewolf of her husband's former pack is a delight. The suspense is high, the action is gripping, and repartee scintillating. And, with the cliff-hanger ending that Carriger has given us, I am now waiting with bated breath for Blameless to be available from the library so I can find out what happens to Alexia and her Lord Maccon.
Three and a half stars out of five.

Continue to enjoy this series of books. The time period mixed with vampires, werewolves, ghosts and of course, souless is a real joy to read. It is also interesting to see how society deals with a strong woman character. I look forward to reading the next in the series and I recommend this series to anyone.

My Lord, it got better. I wasn't sure, because once love comes into things I start getting bored. But it got better. I do love that Vieve Lefoux stayed in the series. She's becoming quite the interesting character. There were others who managed the change from Finishing school to protectorate, but they're more of just...cameos, really. No more depth than they had in the first series.
Let's talk Scotland. For weeks my house will have a running joke of "Oh my, are you showing KNEES?". And frustrations!!! Conall's behavior, first running off and then AT THE END. And Ivy, please stop being so useless. Just really.
ProTip: Don't read the ending whole at work or school. If you're anything like me, you will be in the WORST mood until you read something happier.

These books are just so joyful, the perfect summer reread for me. I would have a hard time thinking of a protagonist's voice I enjoy more than Alexia's.

2nd Reading:
“It was a constant source of amazement to Alexia that the only thing she had ever done in her entire life that pleased her mama was marry a werewolf.”
So...Changeless. It's just a seamless continuation of the adventures of one Alexia Maccon, (formerly Tarabotti) now Lady Woolsey. Her ascent into a higher position is exactly what you think it might be. She's not shy and while she IS a lady, she sure doesn't pull punches. She's quickly cast as "eccentric" since she carries her parasol everywhere-even at night. Not to mention she's acquired a French (gasp) maid who dresses her flamboyantly. Oh, and that thing where she married a werewolf.
Alexia also inherited his pack as another Alpha. It's SO GOOD. The regency-era setting makes everything full of manners and the juxtaposition of violent, sometimes hairy, men everywhere is just...::chef's kiss::
The MYSTERY! Something is randomly turning supernaturals human. It...comes and goes. And when you find out who the culprit is, it opens the world up a little bit-which I loved. There's a bit of a to-do at the end that leaves us with a big ole' cliffhanger.
Recommended for modern folks who enjoy manners.
