More gritty and darker than most of the Rebus novels, which makes this one really special.

Maybe it's because I listened to the audiobook and was sometimes doing other things while listening but I got a bit confused by the various names and different cases. I think I may have to listen again and then just listen so that I don't loose the thread like this.

One of the best of Rankin's Rebus novels. It delves more into Rebus's psyche and moves firmly into hard-boiled detective genre.

Apologies to die-hard Rebus novels but really didn't think this book lived up to his previous novels. The two storylines got a bit confusing and I would have given it two and a half stars if it hadn't gotten a lot better towards the end!

I have yet to be disappointed by an inspector Rebus book. The plots are thick, the hints and revelation come bit by bit and there is always a twist or two. I just love the gritty detective stories. And Edinburgh. So, I might be a little biased, but judging from the amount of awards Ian Rankin has gotten and the books'sales, I am certainly not the only one.

Not a great plot. Narration is also not good.
