I’m very glad I read this. I only have a fleeting knowledge of Star Trek, but picked this up because I realized I knew very little about this part of American history and wanted something that could help me learn about it in a way that wasn’t strictly academic. This was perfect for that. Takei and his collaborators did a great job of balancing important history, family bonds, childhood joy, and hope for the future all into one fairly short story.

Important. Informative and beautifully illustrated. Haunting in an unfortunately necessary way.

A harrowing graphic memoir about a part of American history that is often overlooked. George Takei’s life story is heartbreaking and inspiring on so many levels. I’m glad that this exists.
