Adara and Sven are back in this final book of the Phoenix Wars. Something is coming. That much Adara can ascertain as messages begin to flood in of dissidents against Sven beginning to make waves. Soon it's not long before those in power are being deposed. One by one the flocks fall to new leaders. But what is really going on? The shock and horror of the truth is quickly revealed when the former King makes an unexpected return. Thanks to a little help from another that Adara is all too familiar with. Now the kingdom is thrown into chaos. Adara has a bounty on her head and no one is safe from the mad king.
Court of Flame is the thrilling conclusion by Miranda Martin of this amazing series. Everything comes to a head in this book as the truth comes out as to why she was kidnapped in the first place. We see the fickleness of the people that Sven rules, and we see the heart and dedication of those who serve him and serve him proudly. I will be the first to admit, I got choked up a couple times behind certain characters. War is ugly and the losses are cruel. Even though she doesn't take charge like a true leader, I like that Adara does what she can. She doesn't try to push it off on someone else to lead when the time comes.
There isn't much that I don't like about this book. There is one moment that I have an issue with Adara, but it's only because she tries to make a move without really thinking it through. It was an obvious situation, but she nearly makes a catastrophic mistake.
I am rating this book 5 out of 5 stars. The storyline is engaging. It grips the reader from start to finish and has a fast pace that is well done. It's hard to say goodbye to Adara and Sven, but knowing that their story has been so well told is worth it.
