Warning spoilers ahead:

This is a bit iffy for me. It is a bit creepy, but it got really slow at some points. Short synopsis Constance gets kidnapped by a cult. They are seriously deranged and believe they are demons, and she, along with other women, are angels who can forgive their sins. While she is held hostage she begins caring for and protecting a child who was also kidnapped. That child's father is in a dark organization that eventually comes to get his daughter back. He also saves Constance. They develop a type of relationship. Constance knows her demon hasn't forgotten her amd so she clings to Benton, the child's father. It ends in a bit of a cliffhanger.

I just felt very unconnected to every character. It was hard to feel much about anyone other than Claire. I will read book 2.

There’s just something missing about this book that I’m not able to give it more than 4 stars. I enjoyed the storyline and it’s different from most of the stuff I read. I think I wished and I know this sounds bad but that the FMC had more bad stuff happen to her. Like she basically got away with no hurt or scars. Her obsession with the little girl was a little much for me. Like I understand y’all went through something together but like she’s a child let her move on. I also wish there was more of a back story for all the characters. It was deep topics but very surface level. I’m on the fence on whether I’ll read the next book or not. This wasn’t necessarily left on a cliffhanger but it also wasn’t completely resolved.

Out with the old and in with the new - but this time the danger gets a little to close. Penelope Sky once again keep the readers on the edge of their seats while at the same time creating a world of dark suspense that shines brighter than the rest. Benton and Constance are thrown together out of guilt and appreciation - but there is a fine line between good and evil. I cannot wait to see where this story goes next.
