3.5 stars? Still fun but not quite as strong as the first one for me.

Another fabulous addition to the Agent of Hel series. The first book had me completely hooked and this second to the series was no different.

WARNING: While the first book mostly hinted at more sexual aspects, this book practically throws them in your face. Let's just say the book begins with an orgy, and leave it at that. Fans of Jacqueline Carey's Kushiel books probably won't blink an eye - though the language in these books is slightly more crass than in the Kushiel books, as in these it's SEX and in the Kushiel books, it's an act of worship. So, be warned, faint of heart, there are many instances of the down and dirty among these pages.

The story in this second book was just as interesting as the first, though I did find in this book that there was a slightly more disjointed feel. The story just didn't flow quite as well, there were odd climaxes followed by odd lulls followed by more climaxes - no sexual pun intended ;). I was so hooked by the series, though, that I didn't really mind as much as I might in any other book.

Still a wonderfully entertaining series in my eyes, and I once again find myself incredibly impatient for the third book in the series.

Another great read from Jacqueline Carey in the Agent of Hel series. Daisy is trying her hand at a normal human life with a normal human boyfriend, Sinclair, but he's been hiding a secret. Sinclair is descended from a long line of Obeah sorcerers and his mom is ready for him to come home to Jamaica and follow in her footsteps. Sinclair wants nothing to do with the dark arts that his mother is involved with but convincing her of that before she unleashes evil on the town is not easy. And with the countdown to Halloween approaching Daisy has to enlist help from all of her friends, paranormal and human, to capture and set free the ghosts rising around town before something even more evil attacks. Again I loved the world building, characters, and adventure of this story. So original, suspenseful, and funny. I can't wait to keep reading the series!

Daisy Johanssen continues her work as Hel's agent and she's started dating Sinclair Palmer who seems like a perfectly normal guy who just happens to be able to see auras, but as it turns out he's not exactly as he seems.
When Sinclair's family shows up trying to browbeat him into going back home to Jamaica and taking his place as an Obeah sorcerer, things get a bit chaotic when they return a month later after giving him time to change his mind. Then there are ghosts, witches, sorcerers, werewolves, vampires, outcasts and more that come out to play with our favorite hellspawn.
I enjoyed this one more than book one because it's less about the world building and more about the relationships(familial, romantic and professional) between the various characters.

Continues in the vein of the first book--lighthearted and genre aware. It's a delight to read about an urban fantasy heroine who both longs for and (briefly) gets a lowkey normal relationship and who is self aware enough to know that it will not work in the end. Yay for breaking up and remaining friends! As is typical, the romantic landscape is complicated for Daisy and there are hints of the coming armageddon, but the story never takes itself too seriously.

I really like Jacqueline Carey. She really creates excellent characters and dialogue and her world creation is like no other. I truly would like to visit Pemkowet and meet a few of the eldritch community there.
