This book was an entertaining, fast, and well-written read that could have been a 4 for me if the ending were more satisfactory. There was something about trying to wrap everything up neatly, yet not really demonstrating a lot of growth and change from the characters, that bothered me.
I really enjoyed reading this coming of age story about life after graduation!

I'm rating this book four stars, but I think that last star is really just because I read it in my first year out of university. I really related to the thoughts and emotions felt by the characters in the book.
Although, I have to say (as another review pointed out) they are incredibly privileged and I did find it frustrating at times that (Julia in particular) felt so sorry for herself when actually her family could afford to support her for MONTHS without a job in NYC. Not quite relatable.
Mm, now I've written that I'm debating taking it down to a three star. It was an average book. But it was emotive to me at the time of reading. I'll leave it at four.

I'm struggling here, I didn't particularly dislike this book, but I don't think I was an "ok" book either. So probably not a 2 stars maybe 1.5 something like that.
It's the story of Julia and Even, a young couple who just graduated from Yale and move in together in New York to build their future. But things don't go as planned, because Life happens. Usually we would imagine that amazing (or just good) life we'll have after college, doing a job that we like, spending good times with the people we love etc but things don't always take this turn. That's what this book is about, It's about things not going as planned, about not having that job that we love, not being with people we love and it affects us.
It's a great theme, It's interesting, these feelings of being lost and depressed were very well conveyed but it was boring.
It was just so boring and I hate to think that of a story, but I can't help it with this one.
A lot is happening in this story but at the same time nothing is happening, and I have very mixed feelings about this book because I definitely would have put it aside if I hated it, but I didn't so I guess I must have enjoyed reading it a little bit.
It's definitely not the kind of book that I couldn't put down, in fact I HAD, I NEEDED to put it down, I couldn't read a lot of pages because I got easily bored by the story. And then after a few days, a good few days without reading this particular book, I felt the need to continue reading, to pick up where I left and see what was new with the characters' lives. Except that nothing much happened and I kept getting bored all over again after like 10 pages etc etc.
So yeah I'll give it 2 stars mostly because of that feeling of picking up where I felt, maybe, if the story was told differently it would have been more captivating.

As a general fiction book I was worried that the story wouldn’t grab me as much as my typical go to book however I found myself drawn into Julia and Evan’s story from the start. It was a typical college romance and although this book is about how their relationship develops it is not solely focused on it. The entire book is told from the POV’s of Julia and Evan, which I found interesting. I would read a chapter from Julia and feel sorry for her and find myself resenting Evan quite a lot but then I’d turn the page and read Evan’s chapter, then I’d dislike Julia quite a bit and sympathise with Evan. Even until the end I was conflicted between the characters as I read their struggles and disappointments I was willing them to pull through and come out the other side happily ever after.
I think anyone embarking on adult life could relate to this, I know that as a new adult the questions everyone would ask me were always about my future; where did I want to work, where would I live, where did I see myself in 5 years? It’s a stage of our lives that we all have to go through and The Futures gives us one couples take on it.
I give this 4* overall and thank NetGalley for allowing me to read and review this book.
