It's a great book, but it was difficult to fully enjoy because the movie is SO good. The movie was adapted very faithfully, so I was hearing the actors saying the lines, and occasionally this made me wish I was watching the movie instead. I also struggled with the fictional author-persona because he was a bit of a dick. But it *was* funny and engaging.

4.5 ⭐️ Goldman uses such a unique literary device to create this iconic meta-fictional story about how stories can shape young minds and teach us important lessons; all while containing a satirical fairy tale that is just so fun and whimsical. That being said I do think his narration was used too much. What else can I say that hasn’t been said already? It’s a modern classic for a reason and I can definitely see myself coming back to this book for a fun comfort read.
