I do not understand the hype. It reads like a Wattpad novel that should have stayed on Wattpad.
I did not read any other books in the series and this is not a standalone book at all. However, this was not communicated in the advertising.
I was cringing throughout most of the book and I could not get through it. Here are some reasons why:
• NIGEL – this supposed adult acts as a child and actually gets jealous of a child when the child gets attention. He speaks of others in really weird ways. There is a conversation between him and another character about a “special surprise” in a drink that made me super uncomfortable. He offers to bathe the main female character even though there is no romantic interest. I think the author though Niguel was supposed to be a comic relief character and he just comes off as creepy.
• People allude to kidnapping children
• Even though Matt and Brooklyn met in high school and it would be appropriate when they were both 16, he says he imagines having *sexy time* with a 16 yr old Brooklyn even though he is supposedly in his 30s. This is after the reunite in their 30s. He PURPOSLEY want to imagine a 16 yr old
• Brooklyn results to violence when she is mad and hits Matt. If a male main character did this to a female one, everyone would be up in arms.
I do not recommend this book. Thank you to Netgalley for an ARC in exchange for the honest review.

No review just yet, but as much as I didn't love this book I'll likely tune in for Empire High #8 to see what happens after that painfully frustrating cliffhanger. 3.5 ⭐

I've said it before and I'll say it again, Tanner and Nigel shouldn't have such a large part in this book. Get rid of them and it'd be a 4 part series. Ivy is the queen of dragging a book out. It's very disturbing to me how she puts a 4 year old child into these books naked around men the mother doesn't know. Just eww.
Ivy Smoak gives us another steamy one! This one delivers in a way the earlier ones in the season didn’t but leaves us on a cliffhanger too. I love how the relationship developed through the book- mainly because she had to learn to balance grief and love at the same time. There seems to be a tremendous amount of tragedy for one young woman but something has to drive the books I guess.
This one picks up immediately after the cliffhanger in Homecoming. The reunion between Matt and Brooklyn didn't go as smoothly as everyone hoped, but where do they go from here? He may not have all of her firsts, but will he be okay being her last?
Emotions are running high in this one. There are angsty moments and steamy moments and heartbreaking moments and heartwarming moments. Expect more antics and meddling from Nigel and Tanner. (Those two crack me up.) And there's ANOTHER cliffhanger. I'll be sitting here biting my nails until the next book comes out.
I listened to the audiobook version. The combined narration of Connor Crais and Laurie West made me feel like I could close my eyes and see this playing out on a TV screen. I'm hooked and am looking forward to the next episode.
I received an advance copy of the audiobook from Dreamscape Media and NetGalley. All review opinions are my own.

I didn’t realise when I started listening to this audiobook that it’s the 7th in a series. But I quickly realised there was a lot about these characters it was assumed I would know. Maybe if I started at the beginning I would have been able to enjoy this more. As it stands I found the characters difficult to like and the plot was very slow moving. I normally enjoy books told from different perspectives but I found it off putting with too much overlapping.
I thought I was choosing a bit of an easy read romance but this was not the page turner I’d hoped for.

Thank you NetGalley, dreamscapes media and the author for the AlC in exchange for my honest review. Dreamscapes is easily one of my favorite audiobook producers and this was done so well. This was ny first Ivy Smoak book and it had all the tropes and probably too many to keep track of and made it alot to listen to. I wish netgalley would show its part of a series on description etc.. 3.5/5☆

I love the Empire High novels, even if the cliffhangers are absolute torture!
Cliffhangers are always a way to ensure readers return, but this series is catchy even without them. Do they make it more interesting and dramatic? Absolutely- so I’m here for it.
I started in the middle of this series and have since gone back to start catching up. It’s definitely possible to read this book without the others but the others really do add something to the story! It’s a cohesive storyline and I do enjoy it.
I received an audio copy through NetGalley and I love the narrators. They’re fantastic. The two narrators for the different POVs really bring the story to life and they way they each handle the characters is perfect.

Several days ago I received the ARC for Book #7 from Empire High. Here my most honest review. Wow Ivy! Thank you so much for this Spectacular book. This was exactly what I was waiting for. This story has the bad habit of always breaking my heart and now things happened so perfect that my heart is finally getting a relief. For me Ivy Smoak is one of my favorite authors but the reality is that my heart was broken at some point in each of the 7 EMPIRE HIGH books. This book is full of many emotions and many beautiful things. It's like being on a roller coaster of feelings when you read something that is what you always dreamed for the characters to live. But don't think it all ended there and everything is pink, this book ended with a tremendous situation and I can't wait to see where it culminates.
Thank you Ivy for the opportunity to receive this ARC and for this perfect book.
