Very fascinating world that was created. There’s still so much mystery surrounding everyone’s identities and what powers they hold. I struggled with all the terms, even though there was a translation index in the beginning of the book, but that was all on me though. TENSION & ANGST has never been so prominent in a book before! It was the push and pull that had me wanting to rip my hair out screaming. The spice was sooooo good! The FMC really liked the word “NO” and I felt like she was such a brat at times. But man does Arioch have such a filthy mouth! Gahhhh! Aheia fought him every bit of the way and all he did was reproach with dirty words. I loved getting the POVs from the other characters as well. And WTF happened with Luc and Tariq? That was so hawt! And what about the red haired girl and Shiron? Gosh, the next book can’t come out soon enough!

Arioch:

“He wanted to see what it looked like when she truly begged, and imagined it would be so fucking pretty.”

“Don’t believe the truths told to you by the light. The brightness you’re used to casts the most vicious of shadows.”

“Tsk, tsk, tsk. Don’t be greedy, little goddess,” he chided. “You’ll get just as much as I want to give you.”

“Violence from beautiful creatures,” he said, flourishing his hand and retrieving a needle and thread from somewhere inside his shadows. Then he leaned over, just as he dropped the two things in her small hands, his lips brushing the shell of her ear, “. . . is one of the things I like.”

“Gods,” she whimpered, her voice trembling as he started a torturously slow pace, curling his finger inside of her until he found the spot that had her sucking in a sharp breath, her eyelids fluttering. He clicked his tongue. “I’m the only God you should be concerning yourself with while my fingers are inside of you.” The idea of her begging anyone but him made him fucking feral.

Initially I was going to give this a 3.5 but bumped it to 4 stars. I felt the story was fun and interesting which kept me hooked. I listened to the audiobook and while gripping/exciting (Hello Sean Masters who voiced Ari 🥵!) I got confused at times because i didn’t have the glossary to help guide. Also, way too many characters introduced and I felt like there were a lot of A names.

i was soooooo close to hating arioch haha but i actually love him now
and the ending omgggg i need book 2 rn
the only issue i had with the book in general was the complicated world building, i feel like i didn’t understand half of it and just skipped a lot bc of this

DID NOT FINISH

It read like many other romantasy books but the dubious consent was not my kind of fun.
