This is the type of book that you find yourself whispering in an empty room. It begs to be heard. It is a touching and beautiful and sad and real story of growing up girl in this country.

Before I make this next connection, I want to say that this book is not trendy. It will stand the test of time, and I do not want to trivialize it with social media. At the same time, it reminds me a little bit of the #metoo hashtag that recently trended on that platform.
