This felt like “we are okay”, in the sense of girlhood, female friendship, and feeling untethered sometimes.
This felt like visiting a time and place that I wouldn’t have seen.
This felt like listening to a musical, with a story that hurts the back of your jaw.
How I really really wish I could send this to Roni or Ms Venessa.
It’s an A+ for me.

Four teenage girls growing up in Brooklyn. Love. Friendship. Jealousy. Betrayal. Lies. Memories. Forgiveness.
Poetic. Haunting. Beautiful. Lyrical.
Couldn’t recommend enough.

Jacqueline Woodson is a phenomenal writer and this book perfectly encapsulates the feelings of the 1970s and '80s and Brooklyn through history and music. I made a playlist to accompany my reading of the book because the atmosphere of the place is so well done.
This book is a love letter to black girlhood and captures the transition to teenager in all it's complexity, love, and loss so well. It deals with grief in a way that is palpable, weighty, and real. It demonstrates the way our friendships hold us up when no other thing can in a way that is rarely shown in novels about Black girls.

Another Brooklyn was a quick, easy read with lovely, poetic writing style. It gave perspective into what it's like to grow up as a young girl of color in Brooklyn, and it showed how friendships, futures, and coming-of-age develop for the characters.

That was a beautiful book. I felt like I was reading poetry the entire time.
