I loved the concept of this book. Like a Beaty and the Beast meets Peter Pan kinda feel. But it was very wordy and contradictory making it a bit of a confusing read.

I didn't expect to like this story as much as I did. Nocturn is the story of a ballerina who has gone through many hardships in her life. She is someone whom death has always been close to. As the main character gets older and is more pronounced in her ballerina career she gets the chance to become the prima of her corps. This change comes about because she gains a sponsor. Later on, we find out this sponsor isn't human but rather mythic. Her sponsor has a brother/rival and they have a bet that has been ongoing for over 20 years. Instead of creating a love triangle, the author decides to have the main character overcome both the sponsor and the sponsor's brother through tenacity and intellect.
Overall this was a whimsical book with dark elements but was a good read for anyone who likes folk or myth based books.

This book had SO MUCH potential!!
The story is about Grace, a girl that came from a financial struggling family in her young ages to be accepted to a ballet company. She believed she worked really hard to get the post of prima in her company with a wealthy patron.
However, when she starts unraveling the mysteries about her patron she discover a whole new world behind the curtains of her show.
Right out of the bat I want to leave it clear that this is not a romance. It has romantic aspects to it but at the end of the day, again, it's not a romance.
The atmosphere is very dark (it reminded me of the movie black sawm) and we have this moment of the mysterious patron that reminded me of phantom of the opera.
but then as we started learning about her patron we switch the reference to hades and persephone. At that moment I was so happy bc I love a good retelling of hades and persephone.. but hen it did not stop there.
I think that you will like this book if you want a story about good friendship and overcoming obstacles. I was quite let down by the end to be honest. Additionally, we were supposed to have maybe a romantic tension between the God of Death and Grace but there was no tension at all. I did not feel him pinning for her or she attracted to him.
Anyway.. I think I was misled by the gorgeous cover thinking it was a romance but it was not.
