A lot of the pretty writing made no sense and I found myself rolling my eyes a lot. I guessed a bit of the end but there was still some I didn’t expect so I had fun ig

I really enjoy this book by the author, and the different themes of music, fairy tales, and the ties to mythology. This actually felt like the perfect time to read a story like this as the world is waking back up!
“There was a scream inside me somewhere. I sighed instead.”
This book was haunting. Literally. I started it on a trip while traveling and then I was so busy that I couldn’t get more than a couple chapters a day in. Otherwise I’m sure I would have read it straight through. It stayed in the back of my mind until I could get home and finish it. I loved her prose and the seamless integration of reimaginings of Beauty and the Beast and Hades and Persephone. It was like a chilling mix of the two of those with a more supernatural element. I loved it.

Decided I’m going to stop at chapter 3 before I throw myself into another reading slump. Another reviewer said this book is overly descriptive to the point it’s exhausting, and they’re exactly right. Y’all know I never skim over the fine details; however in this case I would make an exception if I ever felt the need to continue this book just to see how it ends.
