I was so happy to pick up this next installment from the library on its release day! Tahereh Mafi is such a pro- truly goddess level fantasy writing. You can sit back and just enjoy the book trusting there is a perfect overarching story, but savoring its delivery in tiny decadent bites. Despite the cliffhanger chapter endings, I read this one slowly like eating a rich desert! Time passes in real time in this world - so the 500 pages of This Woven Kingdom take place over 3 days. And this beauty? 400 pages in 1 day!

A quiet, world-building and character developing 2nd installment in one of my new favorite fantasy worlds!

Cyrus entering the picture made everything better. This sequel revolved mostly in Tulan between Alizeh and Cyrus. I don't know how the author's able to expound on that side so much without it being dragging because not much really has happened and the events for this book transpired in less than a week, i think? Nevertheless, I enjoyed EVERYTHING. The tension, the heated exchanges, the SPARKS. Iblees really love torturing these characters, my god. Also, the author wrote these characters well in a way that you wouldn't really know who to pine for at the end of this book. At the end of Book 2, Kamran & Cyrus are neck in neck for me. I know i'm conflicted. 

I love the found-family theme that didn't even center around the MC. Omid, my precious boy. 

I suppose I like this sequel because the characters didn't make their own assumptions which prevented complications even during mid-conversations. And let me tell, Conversations HAVE BEEN HAD. So yeah, no one's storming off with one character being left hanging etc etc. Me likey. On to the 3rd book, we go!!
