A major step down from the first book. Kamran is a pampered ass, and Alizeh becomes exceedingly judgmental. There is no plot progression until the final chapter and no character progression at all. The first two chapters are literal repeats (dialogue and events) from book 1.
The “I hate you” and verbal abuse towards Alizeh disqualifies Cyrus as a love interest. It’s not romantic. Kamran takes no responsibility for his actions and blames Alizeh for everything. He literally wants to and plans to kill her.
—“She’d simply stood tall, and his world collapsed. She spoke, and the Diviners had been slaughtered; she spun, and his grandfather had been murdered; she laughed, and his body had been disfigured; she breathed, and his mother had vanished; she sighed, and his aunt no longer spoke to him; she left, and his own people had turned on him.”
He’s disgusting. Actually, both the “love interests” are off-putting. One uses a deal with the devil to excuse their actions, and the other blames his troubles on the woman he “loves” so plots to kill her. Their treatment of women should not be romanticized.
The death of both kings is glossed over. Alizeh asks whether Cyrus’ dad was a “bad king” to try to justify his murder. Kamran’s complicated feelings about his grandpa’s murder (at the hands of Cyrus - yes, the new love interest) is not handled. The author paid lip service to his grief, but it didn’t change him.
I would’ve been angry if this was what I got after waiting a year for its release.

The insta love wasn’t believable and the found family were annoying

Honestly this one didn’t have that mulch of a plot but it’s fine because the romance was delecious enough
