This was surprisingly special to me.
Everything pulled in opposites. The sad scenes also made me laugh. The characters were so special, but also so flawed. They were imperfect and chaotic... and found a needed connection with each other.

1 Stars.
I didn't enjoy this. If I am being completely honest, I was bored most of the time. Nothing really happened in this novel. I went into this knowing it was a romance, the love interests texted a lot, and that the characters were college age. I had really high hopes for this book but ultimately this was a flop for me.
The first 300 pages were the characters acting a certain way that I did not understand at all and often was irritating. In the last 100 pages we got more of an explanation and it was suppose to make and impact but, as the reader, I felt like it was a little out of nowhere. Then in the last 50 pages everything is resolved. I did not enjoy that pacing or construction of the plot in this book. I understand what the author had intended with this story, I think, but it fell flat for me.
Additionally, there was problematic points sprinkled throughout this book. There is no need for racism jokes, body shaming, toxic masculinity that is not challenged etc. There was so many points that made me cringe and other points that really rubbed me the wrong way. Some jokes and repeated descriptions throughout the book that really made me mad. I wouldn't want a young person to read this and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone.

I didn't even make it to the part where they started texting.
The writing wasn't bad just not for me. However, every single character besides Penny and Sam (and one teacher) were incredibly shallow and portrayed as too stupid to function. Besides being an Intellectual and Deep Person™, Penny, throughout all 84 pages that I read, made it very clear how she wasn't like other girls. Also, I wrote that ™ thing as a joke but this book makes that joke at least every chapter.

literally what??? i did not like this at all when i started and i was just pulling through bc it was so bad it was funny. and then as the book grew it was like the author grew into her voice? and she figured out she could ruin our lives by making it insanely real and emotional?? and it became lovely and beautiful??? and everything was explained and wrapped up and recalled like it should’ve been?????? what the fuck????? this is 4 stars based on the lovely latter half of the book, but the first half was LACKING. i am utterly confused! but sam and penny! so!
