This was equal parts hilarious and horrifying. Everyone needs to read this to see just how pervasive and draining racism is. My mouth definitely dropped open at the sheer nerve of some of the white people in this book. They were the worst!! Mostly though, these stories did not surprise me. I was really glad to see how Amber and Lacey turned it into comedy and were able to laugh about it.

CWs: Racism, racial slurs, bullying, police brutality, child abuse, cultural appropriation, xenophobia, gaslighting, sexism, misogynoir, stalking, cursing, religious bigotry, classism. Moderate: gun violence, emotional abuse, hate crime, mentions and jokes about slavery, medical content (medicalized racism), grief, colonisation.

What a great book. Both dark and funny, I’d recommend it everyone. It obviously was painful to read at times but the stories were truly informative and important to take note of.

Amber's brilliance in writing is so present in this book that it comes through even better as she and Lacey narrate the audiobook. While there are parts of this book which will make the reader or listener laugh and/or exclaim "What in the world?!" due to the absurdity in these stories, it is such an informative book. These parts of Lacey's and Amber's lives show just how real and prevalent racism still is in the U.S.

Highly recommend folks listen to the audiobook.
